Based in the heart of the city, Windmill Hill City Farm is an inner city farm which offers educational and therapeutic experiences for local people and those visiting. The farm is open daily from 9am, and closes at 4pm during the winter months and 5pm during the spring and summer months.

For something a little educational, you can visit Bristol Museum & Art Gallery which offers a huge array of historical artefacts and works of art. There are collections from many different cultures throughout human history as well as specimens from the natural world, from gorillas to dinosaurs. The museum is open Tuesday-Sunday from 10am-5pm and opens on some Mondays during the summer months.
The Matthew of Bristol
In 1497, John Cabot sailed from Bristol to Newfoundland on the vessel, The Matthew. While Bristol might not have the original ship, it is home to a stunning replica which even sailed the same route in 1997 to mark the 500th anniversary of the first journey.
This vessel is now moored at the quayside where you can climb aboard and learn more about the first voyage to Newfoundland. This is something that the kids are sure to love and be excited by at the same time as learning a little history.
Treasure Island Trail
The city of Bristol is said to have inspired the swashbuckling tales of Robinson Crusoe and Treasure Island which you can do with your favourite dolls pram. These connections are celebrated in Bristol and you can even go on a Treasure Island Trail which guides you around the Floating Harbour as you spot the checkpoints marked with old wine barrels planted with a palm tree.
